- Hmm... I thought that Sun .au files were 8-bit u-law compressed.
- Using WHAM works fine for me on my GUS... as far as the speaker thing
- goes... check the Drivers setup... I don't think it can hack long
- samples. I seem to recall something about how many seconds to buffer...

- One further note:
-
- The Chameleon stuff I have here from the book does not, as far as I can
- determine, do dial-on-demand. This is not a big deal for me, but it is
- something to consider. It may be that it really <does> and I don't have it
- set up to do that (difficult to do that setup without the book, which
- hasn't arrived yet :-)
-
- Then again, TRUMPET WINSOCK internal SLIP claimed to support it but it
- didn't work right (launch a client and it dials, but the client immediately
- bitches about being unable to resolve a hostname and you have to start over
- anyway).
-
- What did you do, forget to fill in the domain and name server slots in the
- Setup option? Tsk tsk... the internal SLIP works fine for me, although the
- longest I've tried using it for continuously was eight hours. Autodialer
- set up, name servers, the works.
-
- Not having Dial-on-demand sucks, IMHO.
-
- Maybe I'll hang on to my $25 for a while.

- I have WinMosaic 2.0alpha on my PC and I use WPLANY for .au files. The
- following lines are the appropriate entries in my MOSAIC.INI file.
-
- [Viewers]
- type8="audio/basic"
- audio/basic="p:\mosaic\wplany.exe %ls"
-
- [Suffixes]
- audio/basic=.au,.AU,.aud,.AUD
-
- Mosaic and Wplany are loaded from a LAN Manager server (the p: drive). It
- works fine. I like it better than WHAM, which I was using, because it loads
- and plays without any additional commands, clicks or other user intervention.
- WHAM, on the other hand lets you modify the file (hence its name). No flame to
- WHAM, its author(s) or users is intended.
-
- The time limit on the playback may simply be in the Windows Control panel
- driver setup for the speaker driver. It has the option of setting a time limit
- of 1-10 seconds or unlimited. It also has a volume control.
